MCLEAN COUNTY (25 News Now) – Authorities say genetic DNA testing led to the arrest of a man accused of forcing his way into an apartment in Normal and sexually assaulting a woman about 6 1/2-years ago.
A McLean County Grand Jury on Dec. 21 indicted Jonathan Bern Olivares-Venegas, 25, on two counts of home invasion and two counts of criminal sexual assault.
The 36-year old woman told police a man forced his way into her apartment in the 1400 block of East Vernon Avenue in Normal and raped her about 11:30 p.m. on May 1, 2016.
The woman reportedly said she didn’t know her attacker but may have seen him before.
Authorities said a DNA match led police to the suspect.
Home invasion is a Class X felony, carrying a maximum 30 years in prison if he’s convicted. The criminal sexual assault charge is a Class 1 felony carrying a maximum 15 years in prison.
Bond for Oliveres-Venegas was set at $500,000, meaning he has to pay 10% of that or $50,000 cash to be released from the McLean County Jail.
His arraignment is scheduled for Jan. 13.
